Video: Loke Uei Tan and Windows Phone 7 Development – TechReady 11

Smart phones are everywhere. Not a day goes by without some news story about the latest iPhone, Android devices and more. This year though Microsoft is making a huge splash back in the market with Windows Phone 7. While out here my conference roommate was lucky enough to get one and after seeing it in action for a few days all I can say is, WOW! The consumer focused functionality is off the hook and as a collaboration specialist I have been absolutely blown away by its deep capability around Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010. Ultimately though in this world of smart phones and user experience it still comes down to applications. With Windows Phone 7 the opportunity for development is better than ever. In this special TechReady 11 Michael on the Go episode I speak with Windows Phone Senior Product Manager Loke Uei Tan about Windows Phone 7 development and developer opportunities.  Loke is THE man in Windows Phone development evangelism and I was glad I had the opportunity to catch up with him on the latest in Windows Phone dev.

Here are my top 5 most heavily viewed videos in the order of numbers of views:

Video: Bing Voice Search On Windows Phone

While driving my son back to Ohio he was busy showing off to me all the features of his new Motorola Droid phone and having fun rubbing in it in that my own device was not "cool" in his words. Of all the features he was most excited about the ability to search for content, locations, and such using his voice was top of his list. It's funny because I have been able to do the same thing on my own HTC Ozone Windows Phone for quite a while as well. Now admittedly my own device does not exactly exude coolness but when it comes to voice search it rocks.
In today's Michael on the Go video I demonstrate the use of voice search on the Windows Phone platform using the Bing application in 2 scenarios. The first of which is a real use of the functionality to get my car scheduled for service and the second is to find a bite to eat.

Well that appointment I made for my car in the video… time to get moving and run it over ;-) Have a great day and Ciao!

Check Out “Productivity Adventure with Windows Phone, IncaX, and the Office of Naval Research”

I just posted a new guest piece to the Windows Phone blog and it is one to check out if you want to see the integrated Microsoft stack at work in real world extreme conditions. The post is titled Productivity Adventure with Windows Phone, IncaX, and the Office of Naval Research and features a video where; “In today’s video we head out on another Productivity Adventure and see the work that has been done by the ONR first hand. To see its initial use we will observe a sea based emergency response scenario. We also hear how the use of these technologies has been received in the field and they are impacting training exercise evaluations. Finally, we actually get to head out in to the field with some great folks form the US Navy where we stimulant an insurgent bomb placement to test sensor equipment and special response team effectiveness. In the final scenario we actually carry HP Glisten Windows Phones to capture and transmit the entire mission.”
